Coral is a stone of protection and coral jewelry is often worn to ward off the devil and evil spirits.  During the Renaissance period, baby rattles often had coral handles. The noisy bells of the rattle and the brightly colored coral were thought to turn the evil eye away from healthy and happy babies.  Coral is also attributed with providing vitality, physical strength, strengthened marital relationships, and wealth.
