The Daily Texture for 01/01/2015
New Beginnings
Happy New Year fellow texture lovers! Today's Daily Texture is titled "New Beginnings" and is dark and rich with deep blue, gray and brown, along with a highlighted spot in the center for a favorite subject. I used this texture in "Perched Nearby", a portrait of a gull. To add a bit more interest, I added one of his friends flying in the background. Tip: This is more of a bird photography tip than a texture tip. If you're photographing birds on a cloudy day, when they're flying against the gray sky, they often look like a silhouette in the final picture the camera produces. If you raise up your exposure, it will brighten the bird so you can see his details, and it will blow out the sky to make it look white. Save those photos! A bird against a white sky is very easy to mask out later, and you can integrate the bird easily into another work of art, which is exactly what I did here. The sky was horrible on the day I shot these photos. But since I raised the exposure, I was able to capture the details of the flying gulls and now I can simply replace the white sky behind them or mask the birds out and use them in other images.
