The Daily Texture for 03/03/2015
Winter Storm Brewing
Since we have another one of these lovely winter storms coming, I felt this texture was appropriate for today. I paired the texture with another photo of this handsome Fallow Deer I photographed last week. He was standing on a hill of grass, and since it was a cloudy day, the sky was virtually white behind him, making it easy to mask him out and place him on top of this texture. After doing that, I duplicated the Winter Storm Brewing texture and placed it on top of him, setting it to soft light mode. I desaturated that texture layer in order to keep the colors of the original texture true. Then I masked some of that layer off his face, as this layer made his face too dark. I saved this file as a JPG image.
After finishing this image, I wanted to see what he would look like with another texture. So I turned off the winter layers, and opened up the Old Masters 1 texture as a new layer under him. Immediately, my deer was transformed into an autumn scene! I liked it, and worked on the deer layer again to mask off some more of the grass and pull it into this texture. I saved this file as a separate JPG image.
Then, I decided to see what it would look like to combine both textures with him, so I turned on the winter texture layers and brought the Old Masters texture layer to the top. I set it to overlay mode at 100%. And I saved this file as yet another image.
At this point, I remembered to do something I always forget...I turned off all texture layers, just leaving the masked deer layer, and I saved that as a PNG image. Saving it as a PNG keeps the transparent part {the background I masked away} in place. Now, if a customer comes along and wants this deer created with another look, I can do so easily, because in the PNG file I saved, his background is already gone, saving me a lot of time! TIP: Save your images where you have masked out backgrounds as a PNG file so you can easily transform your subject into a new work of art at a later time.
