The Daily Texture for 03/23/2015
Roses By The Pool
I'm not normally a fan of cool colors, but sometimes certain photos call for them, as adjusting them to warmer temperatures might degrade the quality of the photo to an extent I don't like. So Today's Daily Texture is loaded with cool colors, with soft mint green, blue, purple, and a touch of warm rose red {to satisfy my need for warm colors}. I used this texture on both of the example photos below. The rose had a cool green background, so it was fairly easy to work with. I masked away almost all of the background, with the original texture underneath. Then I duplicated the texture two times, placing these on top of the photo. I set one of those layers to multiply at about 30% and the other to soft light at around 50% to complete the image.
The Bedlington Terrier dog photo was much more difficult to work with. The photo was taken on a dark gray, rainy day, under a canopy, which made the dog dark and the backlighting very strong bright white. This one took several layers of texture in different modes and opacities, and I also made some saturation and lighting adjustments to some of the layers. It's one of those photos where, after masking away the dog's background, I kept applying the texture over and over and adjusting things until it looked the way I thought it should. :)
