I did something a bit different with this texture today. I was going to use it with a photo I had recently taken of a bluebird flying. Unfortunately, the photo was taken in low light at a high ISO and had quite a bit of noise. Because I had to brighten the photo considerably, it accentuated the noise too much. I really, really loved the in-flight pose of this bird in the photo and wanted to do something with it. So I decided to use the texture as a background layer for a painting. Since the texture was already a painting by itself, all I had to do was paint the bluebird on top. I brought the texture and the bird image into my paint program. I first made a pencil sketch of the bird image and saved it as a PNG file so it kept a transparent background. Then I copied and placed that pencil sketch layer on top of the texture, lowering the opacity so the pencil marks weren't too strong, but yet they were visible enough to use as a guideline for painting the bird. Then I made a new layer to paint on and painted the bird. I chose colors to be able to blend his tail feathers right into the blue of the existing texture on the bottom layer. After painting the bird, I merged all of the layers together to complete the finished painting, and I took it into Topaz to boost colors and detail, as well as brighten everything up a bit more. |
