The Daily Texture for 07/16/2015Today's Daily Texture is a hot one! Filled with warm tones and just a touch of blue, if you're working with an image taken in the direct, hot summer sun, this is a good one! It can also be used in various layer modes on top of any photo you might want to warm up. I used this texture with a photo of a horse taken last weekend {at the horse show in bright sun and 100+ degree temps!}. I masked away the background from the horse, revealing the texture underneath. Then I duplicated the texture twice as new layers on top. The first of those layers was set to multiply at 30%, with some of that layer masked off the face and neck of the horse. I also desaturated that layer about 50%. With the 2nd duplicate texture layer, I chose soft light for the layer mode. I also desaturated that soft light layer about 50%. This completed the image...but look at the bottom of this blog post to see where I went next with it... I loved the way this one turned out, but I felt painterly today! So I decided to continue on with my horse. A lot of my fellow artists who use these textures will do this - they will blend the texture with the photo, and then take the final image into a painting program to really make things unique and different and totally their own. I've been experimenting with the same process. Here, I took the original photo and reversed it, because I tend to paint more accurately when the subject is facing the left. Using my altered photo as my inspiration, I then painted the entire picture using Corel Painter {version 12}. I experimented with different brushes - basically I was "throwing paint" and just seeing how it looked. CTRL-Z was my friend when I made a stroke I didn't like. :) After completing the painting, I then opened it in Topaz Adjust, and I chose Dynamic Pop from the HDR collection, which is one of my favorite ones to play with in that section. Using this brings out detail in the strokes I couldn't even see in my original painting! Then I adjusted the colors by playing in Topaz restyle. I can't remember which one I chose, but I only used it at an opacity of about 30% because all I was after was a slight color adjustment. I thought you'd like to see the visual samples, so check out the image below which shows everything. Like this texture? Buy it here for only $2. Commercial Use OK.

So glad to see your images of walking horses! I used to show performance walkers 30+ years ago, and still miss the horses and the show experience.
