The Daily Texture for 07/30/2015
Temperatures dropped in the last 24 hours and it made me think of my favorite upcoming season - Autumn! So Today's Daily Texture celebrates the brilliant golds, oranges and browns we see during the fall season. I used this texture with my lion photo below. I masked away the background from the photo, revealing the texture underneath. Then I placed the texture as a new layer on top, setting it to soft light at 100%. I desaturated that layer, which I often do with yellows/oranges in order to keep my colors under control. I duplicated the texture again and placed it on top in multiply layer mode at 50%. I desaturated that layer slightly, and masked some of that layer off the lions. Then I duplicated the texture layer one more time and set it to hard light layer mode at about 50%. I also masked some of this layer off the golden fur on the lions, but left it in place on the white fur, as the white was too bright and this layer helped calm the whites down. Finally, I duplicated the actual photo layer, and took it into Topaz Simplify. I applied the pastel 1 filter, and reduced the opacity of that layer by 50%. This helped soften the fur. I masked some of this layer away though, specifically in the areas of the eyes, nose, mouth and paws, as I wanted to retain detail there.
