The Daily Texture for 02/19/2015
Aged Wine
I was feeling a little vintage, so I chose a vintage wine color palette for Today's Daily Texture. Filled with rich hues of gold, purple, red and olive green, this texture will give your photos an antique feeling with a pop of dramatic color. I utilized this texture on my art "Feathered Photographer" below. The original texture layer was rotated sideways to match the orientation of my camera photograph, and placed as the bottom layer. I masked away the background from the camera, leaving a small bit of the table showing to keep my appropriate shadows. After finishing the masking on the camera layer, I added the little bird as a new layer on top of the camera, and masked out his background as well. Duplicating the texture layer, I added it over top of everything and set it to soft light at 30%. I desaturated this layer in order to keep the lighting the layer created, but not go overboard on the yellow colors, which soft light tends to increase. I then duplicated the texture layer again, and placed it on top, setting it to color dodge mode at about 70%. This made things pop with a little more light, and I really liked the result. Finally, I added a very light vignette around the final image, to darken the corners a little and pull the viewer's gaze to the center of the image.
