The Daily Texture {Background} for 03/02/2015
Seaside Pearl Sunset
I've been working on this texture/background for a while now. I wanted a cliff to place some of my animals on, overlooking the sea and the mountains. I have lots of animal photos where the animal is facing away from me, and they're good photos, so I didn't want to trash them. By integrating this Fallow Deer into this painted scene, he now has something nice to look at, and his photo has been transformed into a work of art! You can see my original photo below...I saved the photo because it's technically good, but I would not have published this photo as is. I masked out his background and placed him on the cliff, paying careful attention to mask away some of his feet to blend him into the grass of the cliff. His feet and legs were a bit too bright, so using Topaz Lens Effects, I adjusted them by darkening using the neutral density filter on just the deer layer. This helped his feet and legs tie in better lighting-wise with the background. I only made one more adjustment after this, and that is on the mountains of the background layer only. His horns have a golden glow based on their color and the lighting in the original photograph. The golden glow of his horns looked just a bit off with the blue tones in the mountains. Once again, I used Topaz Lens Effects and I chose the reflector filter to add a gold light to the top of the mountain layer. This made the lighting between the mountains and his horns look more accurate and realistic, because now both have a warm, golden tone.
