The Daily Texture for 03/30/2015
Afternoon Storm - Brushstrokes
Today's Daily Texture is another featuring the heavier brushstrokes in dark, dramatic stormy colors. I paired this texture with the photos below. The sparrow was perched on a fence, and his background was completely blurred. Because there wasn't distracting detail in his background, I was able to simply place the texture on top in a couple of layer modes. First, I chose multiply and set it to 30%. I masked a tiny bit of this layer off his back where his golden feathers are, as this layer mode made his feathers more blue. Then I duplicated that layer and set it to hard light at about 30% as well.
The Harris Hawk had a very distracting background, so in this case, I removed (masked away) his background completely, and I placed him on top of the texture. Then I duplicated the texture layer and moved it to the top, setting it to soft light at 100% to make the colors richer and add a bit more light onto his face.
