The Daily Texture for 01/09/2015
Evening Light
Today's Daily Texture is full of the rich, golden glow of the evening sun and because of its landscape layout, it makes a great background for those subjects you might have 1) far away photos of and 2) subjects with strong sunlight on either the side or back {think zoo animals, as this happens a lot when photographing them}. The bear in the first example was an old photo from a local zoo, taken many years ago with a smaller lens than I have now. He wasn't quite close enough for my liking in the photo, I didn't like the strong sun on him, and his zoo background was quite unattractive. I masked him out of his original photo and merged him into this textured background, and now he looks like he's part of an artistic scene. See below for another example using this texture.
This hawk photo is probably one of the fastest photos I've completed. Photographing wildlife, I get plenty of these "butt shots", as birds often fly away and animals often run when they see me with the camera. I shot this juvenile Red Tailed Hawk recently on one of my expeditions into a new area, and he was quite far away. Normally, I wouldn't do anything with this kind of shot, but because the bird was sharp, I saved the photo. I decided to play with this bird and the texture. I started with the texture as my first layer, and placed the bird photo on top. Starting with multiply for the layer mode on the bird photo, I went down the list until I reached "hard light". Bingo! Suddenly my retreating bird and the texture came together! I masked a little of the sky from the original photo off, revealing more of the colors and clouds in the original texture underneath. And that was it...in 5 minutes my retreating bird photo became a piece of art instead of a simple snapshot! Like this texture? Buy it here for only $2. Commercial Use OK. |
