The Daily Texture for 03/13/2015
Breaking Clouds
Today's Daily Texture was designed specifically for the photo I'd taken of a bald eagle this week. I hope some of you may find it useful for your work! It's taken me three years to get a clear shot of the eagles when they fly directly towards me, and I knew when I saw this one, it needed to be a panoramic image due to the length of his outstretched wings. After cropping and editing the photo, I masked out the busy background {full of tree branches}, leaving only the eagle. I placed him on top of the texture and positioned the texture layer where the blue break in the clouds would fall right behind his head and body. I lightly masked away some of his wing tips and feet, blending them faintly into the clouds around him. Then I duplicated the texture layer, placed it on top, and played with a few layer modes. Soft light gave it a pop of color and was very pleasing. Overlay, however, increased the color saturation, giving the image a lot of rich, warm tones in the sky. Since this is a powerful photo, I felt the overlay layer mode fit the photo better and matched the illusion of the strength of the original photo.
