Rich teal blue/green fills this one, except for the lighter spot in the center, which is the perfect area to place the important part of your subject to reveal its beauty. Because the grass surrounding my Zebra was a brown/gray color, I first place the texture on top and set it to COLOR mode at 100%. This turned everything a beautiful blue tone as it pulled the colors from the texture. I then masked off the area of the Zebra, revealing her true colors, and I left the field with the blue color alone. By doing this, I didn't have to worry about a strong contrast between the field she was in and the texture itself, since now the field possessed the colors from the texture. I then merged the Zebra photo down, and basically started with this new photo containing the lovely blue tones. I placed the image on top of the original texture, and I masked away most of the Zebra's background, leaving just a small area of the field showing underneath her. {Because the field contained the blue tones from my previous step, it now blends perfectly with the texture -- sure beats masking around every blade of grass!} Then I duplicated the original texture and placed it on top as a new layer, setting it to soft light at 100%. This created a brighter light on her body, but I wanted that light on her face. So I flipped that layer of texture, which put the bright spot on the left of the center instead of the right...on her face area. Then I desaturated the color in that layer to keep the colors of the original texture true to form. After merging everything, I did a slight brightness adjustment to make the Zebra pop a little more. |
