Today's Daily Texture is another perfect one for spring, as it features a beautiful blend of pink, lavender and yellow spring colors.  I used this texture on this lovely dove artwork, to give her a spring mood, rather than the cold, winter day on which she was originally photographed.  After making an adjustment to her colors using the HUE layer mode {see below for this tip}, I then placed the original texture underneath her and masked away her background, leaving just a little ground showing around her feet.  Then I duplicated the texture layer and placed it on top, setting it to soft light at 30% to pump up the colors and brightness a little.
TIP:  You can use textures to change the color tone of your original photo.  As you see below in the first photo, my dove photo has a very cool tone...she has lots of bluish hues to her feathers.  Part of the reason is this was taken on a gray, winter day, and also because the lens I used for this tends to produce cooler-toned photos.  Dove feathers also tend to pick up their surrounding hues.  Placing her "as is" with the Sunshine Kiss texture -- which is very warm - would look odd.

Before I ever started any masking with this photo, I first wanted to make her coloring and the ground coloring look better with the texture.  I could have chosen to warm up the photo with my software, but I find sometimes that is a bit too harsh.  The best way to make sure her tones match the texture is to use the texture itself to make the color adjustment.  I placed the texture on top of the dove photo and set the layer mode to HUE.  I then adjusted the opacity of the hue layer down a little bit until I was happy with her tones.  Then I merged these two layers, and began the rest of the work as described above to create the final image.
