We have sky, brown foliage, and water, with the sky tones being reflected in the water. Don't want the water in your scene? No problem, just crop or stretch the texture out to the point where it will exclude the water! Just want the sky? Crop it down to the sky and use just that as a new sky for one of your photos which needs some color in the sky. There's so many things you can do with this one, including using it in various layer modes over top other photos to give new color tones and lighting to your original image. I used it as a full background here for this eagle photo. The eagle was photographed actually landing in tall grass. When masking, I masked away the entire eagle background, but I brought back a tiny bit of the grass around her feet to give a little perspective and to make sure to show her talons, which I thought were pretty cool outstretched like they were. After completing the masking, I kept looking at the image, thinking something didn't make sense. And it finally dawned on me - if the SKY is showing being reflected in the water, and the eagle is coming down right over the water, it would only make sense the eagle would also be reflected in the water. So I duplicated the eagle layer, flipped it upside down and pulled this new layer down over the water, leaving just a little of it showing over the water. Then I reduced the opacity of that layer down to about 50% and blurred that layer {as water reflections are often blurred and not as crisp as the subject being reflected}. Now you can see a small hint of the eagle's tail and some brown feathers in the water area, and things make better sense. I then duplicated the texture and placed it on top of everything, setting it to soft light at about 30%. After merging everything, I gave the image a slight brightness adjustment to really make it sing. |
