The Daily Texture for 05/14/2015
Golden
Today I was in the mood for rich gold, and the Daily Texture features the hues of my favorite metal. I used the texture on this composite image of a white peacock. The peacock was originally sitting on a fence, but I placed him on an elegant column. I masked away the backgrounds, merged him with the column, and placed this on top of the texture. Then I duplicated the texture layer a few times, and placed these duplicate layers on top, setting them to various layer modes (multiply, overlay, etc). I adjusted the opacity of these layer modes and also did a little masking away of some of those texture layers from different areas to get the image looking like I wanted. After all of this, something was still not right, and I finally realized this bird was shot with one of my lenses which produces COOL colors, yet the texture is WARM in color, therefore there was an imbalance in color tone. To address this issue, I duplicated the texture layer again and placed it on top, setting it to HUE layer mode. This allowed the bird's white feathers -- which had a slight bluish cast - to pick up the golden tones. I masked all of that texture layer away, except for the portion of the layer on the bird. This helped my bird to attain the tones necessary to properly blend with the background of the image. |
