It's something I look for often when I go out shooting, because plain skies just aren't as interesting to me as ones with lots of clouds. Clouds add interest and drama and energy. By using sky textures, I can now have that interest and drama regardless of whether it was present in the sky at the time of the shoot. This bald eagle, for example, had a plain blue sky behind him as he came in with a fish. And while it was pretty, I think the image looks much more interesting and artistic now! I used Topaz Remask on this one to get a very accurate mask of the eagle, and I placed him on top of the sky texture. I softly blended some of his edge feathers away, allowing him to merge well with the texture of the sky under him. Then I duplicated the texture layer. Leaving the duplicate layer underneath him {but on top of the original texture layer}, I changed the layer mode to multiply at 50%. Then I duplicated that layer and set it to soft light at 100% to bring some more light and glow to the sky. |
